Arab and Arab American genealogy often depends on understanding both place and community. This NSAB Connect discussion will continue the conversation on how identifying a specific place or region can strengthen family history research, and how community-based resources can help fill in the story. Participants may share map strategies, religious institution access, family networks, local organizations, and other resources for reconstructing family and neighborhood histories.

This discussion will also include our end of the year wrap up. Join us to share what research you completed in 2026 and what are your goals for 2027!

September NSAB Connect Discussion Focus: Genealogy Legacy: Preparing Your Research to Share or Pass On

Many family historians spend years gathering records, photos, stories, trees, and notes, but do not always have a plan for what will happen to that research in the future. This NSAB Connect discussion will focus on practical ways to organize family history research so it can be understood and used by relatives, future generations, or community archives. Participants will also discuss options beyond passing research to descendants, including sharing or donating materials with extended relatives, archives, community-based preservation projects, and other repositories.

Bring one photo, document, or meaningful object (or describe it if you’d rather not share images). Members will trade ideas on digitization and file-naming, preservation and storage, extracting clues (people, place, date, studio marks, handwriting, inscriptions), and ways to use items as evidence in research or writing. Leave with a member-suggested next-step plan or just some inspirations for your family history work.
